You will also need it to hire private insurance within in Spain, to apply for your social security card, to use Madrid´s public health system, or simply to open a resident bank account in a bank close to your house or workplace.
If you are going to be regularly using public transport, we recommend that you obtain a monthly commuter pass to get around all of metropolitan Madrid by bus, metro or commuter train. With these monthly passes you are able to save a lot of money.
There are other obligations you may have to take care of as well, for example: • "El empadronamiento" (registering with the town hall where you live). • Registering with the social security office as an employer if you wish to employ a housekeeper or nanny. • Obtaining your license plate number (if you bring your car from outside of Spain). • Receiving your annual tax return if you meet the requirements and your tax residence is considered to be Spain.
